Who is Luca V?
Luca V is an Italian singer-songwriter. His full name is Luca Mercandino and he started to sing at the age of 23. Luca is from the year 1995 and he started his musical career late (compared to nowadays rising singers and songwriters), that’s why we asked him to talk about the songwriting world and about the difficulties of being a songwriter in 2023.
What does it mean to be a musical artist?
“Many people think of the glamorous lifestyle, traveling the world, playing sold-out shows, and having a large fan base. But there is so much more to being a successful musician than the glitz and glam.”
Luca V explains that being a songwriter, nowadays, takes dedication, hard work, and passion for truly being a successful singer and Artist.
Is it risky trying to become a musical artist and start your career?
“Being a musical artist means having the courage to take risks and put yourself out there. It means having the strength to accept criticism and use it to improve your craft. It means having the discipline to practice and hone your skills, even if it means doing it in the face of rejection.” In Luca V's mind, being a musical artist is also about being creative and having the ability to express yourself and your thoughts/emotions through music.
Is it possible to become an artist without playing an instrument?
“In my opinion, it’s not just about playing an instrument or using your voice, it’s about finding your unique sound and style and, moreover, keeping your motivation high and about having good money management: most times, become a recognized artist, involves to pay a good producer for the music production service, hire a good video marker, spend money in advertising, etc.” Luca V explains that becoming a good musical artist is also about writing lyrics that tell your story and creating music that resonates with people.
Is it possible to become a successful artist nowadays?
“In my opinion, to be a successful artist, you must be willing to push yourself and challenge yourself to new heights. The music industry is a competitive one and it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to be successful. As an artist, you must know how to promote yourself and your music, as well as understand the business side of things. It is also important to be able to collaborate with other artists and professionals, as well as be open to feedback and constructive criticism”.
In conclusion, being a musical artist or a songwriter in 2023 is no easy task.
Luca V explains that with streaming services dominating the industry, record labels shifting their focus away from songwriters, and an abundance of free music, it can be difficult to make a name for yourself and make money as a musical artist.
However, with hard work, perseverance, and a little bit of luck, it is still possible to make it as a singer-songwriter in 2023.
