Jonathan Robson, popularly known as 6ixhomechef, is championing a movement that intends to foster togetherness among people from all walks of life through cooking. This movement was borne out of Jonathan’s concern that cooking has been relegated to the background in today’s fast-paced world where drive-throughs, take-outs and home deliveries are now the norm. He noted this concern in a recent interview, “I found that many people have no idea how to cook, and prefer to eat out all the time,”
Armed with the belief that cooking is an essential and vital skill that will benefit everyone, Jonathan set out to make his dream happen. As he noted, “I want to empower all men and women to know that they can cook, and to not be scared of it. 6ixhomechef is my movement to bring people together through cooking.”
Jonathan didn’t set out at the beginning to be a chef. The Mississauga-based business graduate initially ran a spa business that was forced to close down as a result of the lockdown measures implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic. In a bid to stay busy, Jonathan turned to cooking and quickly set up an Instagram account in 2020 to showcase the dishes he was rustling up and document his new journey as a home chef.
But even though this was a new and exciting career, Jonathan was not new to the world of cooking. He had grown up in a family where cooking dishes from around the world was the norm. What’s more, Jonathan fondly remembers the many times where he would cook with his father and asserts it as the root of his passion for the culinary arts.
Just like his family, Jonathan challenges himself to prepare dishes that will please an international palate. His mouthwatering dishes which range from Italian to Pakistani food are done with his signature twist that encourages fusion of cultures. Jonathan credits his growing up in a diverse place like Canada as the basis for his unique meals.
Since 6ixhomechef debuted on the scene, it has received a positive reception from foodies and those interested in cooking. His Instagram page alone currently has over 50,000 followers. According to Jonathan, “It has been extremely positive and overwhelming. I love the positive comments and DMs I get. I feel flattered when I get requests to cook a specific dish or when people ask me for tips and tricks on how to make a certain dish.”
