Virtual Applied Ergonomics Conference March 22-25 offers solutions for every workplace

By: PRLog

NORCROSS, Ga. - March 10, 2021 - PRLog -- A year of ergonomic problems and solutions will drive the agenda March 22-25 at the second virtual Applied Ergonomics Conference (AEC). In its 24th year, AEC was held virtually for the first time in 2020 in response to COVID-19 pandemic health, safety and travel concerns and restrictions.

"By having it virtual, it can be made available to a vast number of people all across the globe and have it available at their schedule," said Amanda Kauder, an ergonomist and environmental coordinator for a manufacturer of commercial refrigeration. "As ergonomists, we try to fit the job to the person, so now we're fitting our conference to the people who are coming to it."

On course to be the largest AEC, participants will log on for 60-plus sessions – including COVID-era ergo lessons – tour a virtual exhibit hall and interact in a dynamic online networking ballroom complete with virtual floors. They also will witness the first-ever virtual version of the popular Ergo Cup competition, sponsored by The Ergonomics Center and Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at North Carolina State University. More than 60 teams demonstrating ergonomic solutions to improve work safety and productivity will participate in the competition, with winners announced on the final day of the event.

Presentations throughout AEC follow one of six tracks: Advancement in Ergonomics; Ergonomics in Action; Ergonomics in Health, Safety and the Environment; Ergonomics Programs; COVID's Impact on Ergonomics; and Office Ergonomics Programs and Applications. The full conference program is available at iise.org/AEC/schedule.

Keynote speaker John D. Lee, Ph.D., a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and director of the Cognitive Systems Laboratory, headlines the event speaking on "Trust and Adaptation to New Workplace Technology." AEC Aspire Talks feature Amy May, general manager of Boeing Canada Winnipeg, and Wayne Maynard of Liberty Mutual Insurance.

Sponsored by the Applied Ergonomics Society (AES) – one of three societies of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) – the annual ergo conference attracts a wide field that includes ergonomists, safety engineers, occupational therapists, human factors specialists, industrial hygienists, and industrial and systems engineers.
