Lakeside Union School District Teacher Recognized as CWLP Fellow

Lakeside, CA - March 2, 2021 - Lakeside Union School District's very own Spanish Immersion teacher, Cristal Herrera, was recognized as a CWLP fellow in 2020. The title comes after many hours of work and effort put in by Herrera to receive the certification.

The CWLP or the California World Language Project is a "collaborative, statewide network that sponsors year-round professional development programs for world languages educators intended to strengthen the teaching of languages and cultures in California." The organization helps foster teacher expertise and development in the classroom. Cristal participated in these programs to provide even better support in the classroom by becoming a CWLP fellow.

To become a CWLP fellow, Cristal completed the SALIN project, which offers year-round Standard-based professional development for language teachers. The program gives teachers leadership development opportunities and training on how to further cultivate their instructional teaching competencies. To complete the program, participants must complete 120 hours of professional development and are then considered a CWLP Fellow.

The Lakeside Union School District is thrilled to have Cristal Herrera, a current CWLP Fellow, as an asset to all of the teachers and faculty in the district. Cristal initially began teaching at Lakeside in 2010 as the Spanish Immersion teacher at Riverview Elementary and now still teaches within the district, as a Spanish Immersion and ELD teacher at Tierra del Sol Middle School.
