On April 10th, MapleStory M, the horizontal scroll action RPG for smartphones developed by Nexon, has officially released its latest Japanese version on both App Store and Google Play for Japan Maplers.

MapleStory M is the mobile port of one of the most renowned long-lasting action RPGs on PC, MapleStory, which was first released in April 2003 and still has a significant influence on the game industry, as well as millions of worldwide players. Since it released, MapleStory M has soon won instant fame as bringing the nostalgic world of MapleStory to the mobile devices, as well as delivering an authentic MMORPG experience that can be enjoyed whenever and wherever right in the palm of a hand.

MAPLESTORY M is a freemium MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) set in the magical Maple World where noble Cygnus Knights work to defeat the infamous Black Mage. Players create a custom character, choosing from five classes: Dark Knight, Bow Master, Night Lord, Bishop, and Corsair, and enter Maple World suffering from amnesia. While searching for the reasons behind their memory loss, they find out the wildlife has gone crazy -- a symptom of the ongoing fight between good and evil. Of course, players will complete missions by fighting monsters, which grants players experience points (XP), items, and currency (like MapleStory M Mesos) to upgrade their skills, armor, and weapons. To earn the best rewards, players join guilds and enter special events, fighting alongside other players to defeat the biggest monsters. Customization and commerce are also included here, and players can forge, fuse, buy, and trade items with MS M Mesos in order to create their own uniquely powerful heroes.

As the third instalment of the franchise MapleStory M, MapleStory M JP is designed to serve only to Japanese players. The game features Japanese language and symbols throughout where you can pick up some friends, establish a guild and embark on an expeditionary adventure with ease if introducing yourself with Japnese language.

There are already two existing predecessors before MapleStory M JP: MapleStory M KR and MapleStory M GL. The former is the Korean version released in October 2016, and the latter is Global version released in July 2018. Remarkably, as the first installment way back 2016 only available for South Korean players, MapleStory M Korean version achieved 2 million downloads in first two weeks after its release.

Moreover, MapleStory M Global version has topped the App Store highest grossing charts in most of the Southeast Asian regions in the first six weeks after its release. On the other hand, it has made all the way to the Top 10 highest grossing games in Taiwan, Malaysia, and Thailand on Google Play.

Now, based on the statistics we just received, we're glad to notice that what MapleStory M JP just accomplished wouldn't be less than that of its two predecessors. In only 24 hours from releasing till now, MapleStory M Japanese version has reached 300,000 downloads milestone on app stores.

The publisher Nexon is celebrating this download milestone with a time-limited giveaway called "Inventory Expansion Ticket" for all users who log in the game before May 10th.

The skyrocketing downloads and users' number may last for a while. At this rate, There is a reasonable belief that MapleStory M will manage to top the list and pull off in Japan this time.

With the Japanese version of MapleStory M released, some might wonder where would be the next region for the next instalment. Considering most of the Far East already incorporated to the scale, except for a few states like China (apart from Taiwan), North Korea, Mongolia, and Russia, I think I will put my entire stake on China. In China, there are at least ten million MapleStory nostalgic fans who still have a deep connection to this title and might have a taste of Maplestory M global version on and off. Most importantly, they will never be content and pleased only if Nexon gives a second thought about the candidates for this next instalment release and choose China as the winner. China for the next instalment would be not only a wise investment and business strategy but also an opportunity to extend the title's popularity and widen the gap for the company's rivals.
