Great news for Chrono Cross fans! A new Kickstarter campaign has launched to support an ambitious recording that aims to pay a symphonic tribute to Yasunori Mitsuda’s iconic soundtrack from the game for its 20th anniversary. Aptly titled “Cross Symphonic,” the project aspires to redefine the legendary soundtrack from Chrono Cross as a symphonic film score.
Cross Symphonic represents a completely licensed 17-track album of reimagined music from Chrono Cross. The entire recording will be performed by an industry-leading orchestra & choir that house some of the best musical artists in the world. The album is scheduled to be released on November 18, 2019, as a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the official launch of Chrono Cross in Japan.
A fan-based tribute to both the iconic soundtrack and its legendary composer Yasunori Mitsuda, Cross Symphonic promises to be a sweeping melodic number that will carry the listener through the different events of the famous game. It will retell Masato Kato’s exciting tale, layered by adventure, jealousy, deception, and determination.
“We are looking forward to crafting a symphonic tribute that will enable you to experience Chrono Cross in a whole new way,” smiled John Paul Hayward, a renowned American composer and the man behind Cross Symphonic.
In his words, the sweeping melody of Cross Symphonic has drawn cues from the works of famous film composer John Williams and Yasunori Mitsuda, both of whom have been chief inspirations to Hayward personally.
“We are striving for a world-class product. Our album will be recorded by a 75-piece orchestra with choir in Nashville, Tennessee. We have lined up some of the best studio musicians for our album, and are hopeful that Cross Symphonic will provide a phenomenal experience for the Chrono community. Chrono Cross and its epic soundtrack have always been extremely special to me. Thus, with its 20th anniversary approaching, I wanted to do something exceptional for Chrono Cross and its fans. It’s an ambitious project and needs your help. Hence, this Kickstarter campaign. Licensing and production for Cross Symphonic have already been approved by Yasunori Mitsuda and Septima Ley. The album will be produced and distributed by Hayward Publishing.
A cool host of awards are waiting for the backers. These include two unique digital or physical posters, a digital album, physical CD and vinyl editions of the album, and a digital or physical study score. Pledges reaching $200 and above will be rewarded with the special Schala Edition CD and pledges reaching $500 will have the opportunity to have the backer’s name in Liner Notes. Higher pledges touching $2,500 will be honored with the exclusive invitation to catch the recording session live.
