Chiang Mai Bonaka utilising every aspect of lean Eco business

A Mulberry paper factory in Thailand, although being established many years, is leading the way when it comes to an ecological yet lean profitable business.
PRLog - April 19, 2015 - CHIANG MAI, Thailand -- The handicrafts industry is still thriving worldwide and is worth around 100 billion USD globally. One branch of this industry has its roots firmly established in South East Asia where Mulberry trees grow in abundance; I spoke with one Business manager who explained how entrepreneurs work together with the indigenous people of Chiang Mai to ensure the growth of the Mulberry paper industry and the population of this charming ‘tourist hotspot’ tropical province of northern Thailand:

“I’ve worked with many businesses before, one thing that always has a place in modern business practice is ‘Lean business’, how to ensure everyone is doing their part and how nothing is left to waste. We only have to look at nature itself, everything is consumed, and starts the new process so that new life can begin again.

This is a very important viewpoint for us here at CM Bonaka and the villagers who have been making the paper for many years have really taken our ideals to heart as they can clearly see how this new attitude can sustain and breathe new life to the area and insure work for generations to come,” Sombat Yankruan Thailand Operations manager told me this week.

“Traditionally we are a Mulberry paper factory, and have for over 20 years created handmade handicrafts from Scrapbooking items to photo frames, baby mobiles and Mulberry containers of all kinds and sizes, we also have many orders for the paper itself from florists and hobbyists who love the natural organic beauty and charm of pure saa paper for wrapping flowers and many other gift ideas. The paper is always in demand as it is beautiful and durable, and more recent years we were asked to create presentation cases for wines and other gifts often given to loved ones or appreciated employees from around the world.

Moreover our end consumer feel safe in the knowledge that we never cut down trees, we just use what we are given by nature itself and what we use grows back naturally in time.

The Mulberry trees provide a unique ecosystem to the local community, all from the bark of the Mulberry tree itself which grows right here in Chiang Mai Thailand. There are over 400 people from the village who has somebody directly or indirectly working with us

Since we took over the business early in 2015, we have seen a massive opportunity to grow the business through utilising what we already have been gifted by nature itself, and we are now in the process of making a fortified health drink from the fruit of the Mulberry trees, which also happens to be a delicious sweet fruit loved by all ages and a series of unique skin care products

The skincare benefits are well known; the berries, roots, and bark of mulberry are constituents for healthy and younger looking skin. Mulberry root not only triggers collagen production, but it also has a strong brightening effect, helping to eliminate sun and age spots. Added to this, the root extract has a strong anti-inflammatory effect on skin, healing and calming irritations.

Mulberries are rich in nutrients for dull and weary skin including: organic acids, vitamins, carotenoids, flavonoids, and pectins. They moisturise the skin and protect from UV damage. Mulberry extract is safe and beneficial for eye care too, as it helps to lighten dark circles.

By working closely with the indigenous skills passed down from generations and fusing their experience with our own entrepreneurial skills we are not only providing an income for generations to come but utilising every aspect of nature to make the Mulberry products that our customer have always loved and presenting the next generation of newer lines all from what we have already growing on our fields without ever felling a tree,” Sombat proudly explained.

CM Bonaka has a factory in Tambon Namprae Chiang Mai Thailand and has for over twenty years supplied bulk Mulberry paper and Mulberry handicrafts to wholesalers who in turn supply hobby shops and stationers all over the world. Nick and his new team are now creating new lines of Mulberry Juice drinks and a totally organic skincare range using lean business practices through an organic practice and also regenerating an entire community of established skills passed down through generations.
