The story follows Gabrielle Westin, the white daughter and granddaughter of the wealthy and powerful Remington-Westin clan, and Leander Washington, the African American son of a family of modest means. Their deep and platonic friendship is sealed in their emotional blood sibling's ceremony, in which they pledge commitment to one another throughout life and vow to have no secrets between them. Sadly, however, a tragic event that Leander discovers causes him to break his oath of not keeping secrets. Out of love for Gabrielle and her family, he vows to remain silent. The burden of silence is heavy for Leander to bear, but if revealed he fears it could destroy a family. He chooses friendship over justice and hides the truth to protect someone he loves.
The author perfectly crafted and artistically narrates the details as if in an actual scene. A story that captures the essence of the dynamics of strong characters and surprisingly the story's plot. Readers will surely be hooked, grasping all the events, only to have something happen that keeps them guessing.
