Louis Garbis’ First Book Details Greece’s Critical Role in World War II and Reminds Greek Antecedents of Who They Are and Where They Came From
eBooks2go is publishing a fascinating new history book from Louis Garbis that shares his family’s grueling struggles to survive starvation and self-preservation in occupied Greece, and the subsequent journey to America. Although writing wasn’t originally on Garbis’ bucket list, he wanted to find a way to help his children and future generations learn about their family roots and proud Greek heritage. Garbis said, “‘Our life’ is a homage and a spiritual journey to our origins. I wanted to make sure our Greek descendants never forget us, and most important, never forget who they are and where we came from!”
In addition to the Garbis family history, “Our Life” gives readers an inside look at the bloody Greek Civil War, the devastating effects of Kefalonia’s great earthquake of 1953, Greece’s pivotal role in helping the Allies achieve victory in World War II and important societal issues such as slavery and the consequences of migration on indigenous people in the US.
It wasn’t easy for Garbis to write “Our Life”, but he knew it had to be done to prevent history from repeating itself. Garbis said, “This book was hard for me to write as some of the discussions of our past were difficult and heart-wrenching, but our story had to be told for the benefit of our descendants. I didn’t want them to make some of the same mistakes as our ancestors.”
“Our Life” is currently available as an eBook worldwide and the paperback and hardcover formats will be released early next week.
