Gender Wellness of Los Angeles, a mental health treatment program for LGBTQ, will hold its first-ever Speed Friending event where nonbinary and transgender individuals can forge new friendships on Saturday, May 31 at 5:30 pm on the rooftop of the Los Angeles LGBT Center.

-- Gender Wellness of Los Angeles, one of the nation’s leading practices dedicated to gender and sexual orientation-specific mental healthcare, is kicking off LGBTQ+ Pride Month one day early with its first-ever Speed Friending event, a take-off on the popular Speed Dating trend but designed for young members of the nonbinary and transgender community to forge new friendships with others who share a common life experience. The event will be held on Saturday, May 31 starting at 5:30 pm on the rooftop of the Los Angeles LGBT Center (1118 North McCadden, Los Angeles). Registration is free as is parking in the designated garage. To register visit LA LGBT Center online.

“As LGBTQ+ Awareness Month in June approaches, we decided to organize this unique, platonic event that offers an often-maligned community with a chance to be themselves and hopefully make some new friends,” says Casey Weitzman, MA, LMFT, director and founder of Gender Wellness of Los Angeles. “With gays, lesbians and bisexuals traditionally receiving most of the attention during Pride Month, we decided to put the spotlight on our transgender and nonbinary members who can sometimes feel left out. We hope that Speed Friending helps us call attention to this special segment of the community while providing a warm, friendly and nurturing environment for forging new friendships.”

Gender Wellness of Los Angeles Is Southern California’s premier source for gender and sexual orientation-specific mental health care. It seeks to enable transgender, gender-diverse and all LGBTQIA+ individuals—and their families—to thrive by helping them find their most authentic selves. The practice is composed of gender-affirming trained professionals who specialize in one-on-one counseling, family and couples therapy, support group facilitation, gender-affirming care referrals and community events. It has been reported that working with a gender therapist can be a game-changer for those navigating their gender identity, gender expression or sexual orientation.
