The newly completed Oaktree Extension is a thoughtfully designed single-storey rear extension that transforms the way the family interacts with their home, while respecting the character of the original property. The project reflects Habito Designs’ core philosophy: creating architecture that enhances everyday living through light, space, and strong indoor–outdoor connections.
A Contemporary Vision Rooted in Context
The brief for the Oaktree project was to sensitively modernise the existing house while introducing a new extension that would act as the heart of family life. The outdated lean-to garage at the rear of the property provided an opportunity to reimagine the layout and unlock the home’s full potential.
After exploring several design options, Habito Designs proposed a sleek, flat-roofed extension that complements the proportions of the original house. The contemporary white rendered façade creates a clean and elegant contrast against the traditional brickwork, establishing a clear yet harmonious dialogue between old and new.
Design Focused on Light, Flow, and Function
Designed by a Woking-based architectural team with deep local expertise, the extension prioritises natural light and spatial flow. Large sliding glazed doors connect the new kitchen-dining space directly to the garden, dissolving boundaries between inside and out. Carefully planned outdoor seating areas further extend the living space, making the home ideal for both everyday family life and entertaining.
Minimalist detailing throughout allows the quality of materials and the relationship with the surrounding landscape to take centre stage-an approach that defines Habito Designs’ residential work across Surrey.
Sustainable Upgrade for Modern Living
Beyond the extension, the project included a full upgrade of the existing house. Works involved complete rewiring, improvements to the building fabric to enhance thermal performance, and the installation of an air source heat pump. Internal layouts were reconfigured to align seamlessly with the new extension, ensuring every square metre of the property is used efficiently and intuitively.
