From Visitors to Disseminators: Experience Huyi’s Rural Vitality through Diplomats’ Perspectives

International Online Shaanxi Report (by journalist Liu Honghua):

On August 12, diplomats from 20 countries stationed in China visited Caijiapo Village and Liyukou Village in Shijing Street, Yizhao Modern Agricultural Park in Jiangcun Street, and Longwo Liquor Culture Museum in Laodian Street of Huyi District in Xi'an. The tour opens a unique window for people to explore China's rural internationalization.

During the visit, diplomats engaged in diverse experiences: they participated in a folk art copyright exhibition guided by humanoid robot "Xiao Hu," explored the Art Village Chief's Home, admired Huxian County peasant paintings, watched the folk performance The Big Bridal Sedan, savored Tuchui Coffee, and picked grapes in vineyards. The packed itinerary was designed to showcase the development momentum in rural China.

"In Huyi's villages, we witnessed the integration of natural resources, talent entrepreneurship, tourism, and art. Only by connecting productive activities with nature can rural areas be greatly revitalized. I hope to introduce grape cultivation techniques from here to southern Nepal," said Parbati Aryal, Minister Counsellor of Nepal in China.

"The highly distinctive wedding customs performances, diverse leisure options and modern grape cultivation and marketing – all of these have left me a very deep impression. The display of traditional culture reflects mutual learning among civilizations, while rural practices demonstrate cross-border exchange of development models," summarized Boutaina Saboundji, Counsellor of the Moroccan Embassy in China.

Back in the 1950s, when farmers described their land through art, the peasant paintings endowed Huyi with an indelible cultural gene. Such cultural heritage gained international acclaim through overseas exhibitions, serving as a unique symbol of Huyi's rural globalization.

"Farmers' work is arduous yet highly valuable. I'm really attracted by those amazing paintings because I also grew up on a farm," said Luamanuvae A. Mariner, Ambassador of Samoa to China.

In Huyi, Longwo liquor and peasant paintings exist in symbiotic harmony. At the Longwo Liquor Culture Museum, diplomats explored the century-old history of Longwo Liquor, ancient brewing techniques, and related folk traditions and culture, immersing themselves in the rich cultural deposits preserved behind the ancestral wine-making techniques.

From peasant paintings to Longwo liquor, diplomats witnessed people's passionate celebration of daily life and their respect for the heirship of craftsmanship spirit.

Extending from agriculture to cultural tourism, and from rural landscapes to artistic expression, Huyi District is breaking down urban-rural boundaries and industrial barriers to create an integrated "Agriculture + Culture + Tourism + X" ecosystem. Through the diplomats' visit to Huyi District, the whole world has now casted their eyes on China’s rural revitalization as epitomized by Huyi.
