Alison Godfrey, President and Co-Founder at STEM for Flathead Valley Schools was recently selected as Top President and Co-Founder of the Year 2024 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) for her outstanding leadership, dedication, and commitment to the industry.
Inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor in itself; only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, longevity in the field, other affiliations, and contributions to their communities. All Honorees are invited to attend the IAOTP annual award gala at the end of this year for a night to honor their achievements.
With more than four decades of experience in the engineering industry, Ms. Godfrey has proven herself as an expert in her fieldMs. Godfrey established and led the Flathead Valley Rocket Rally Program in 2016. This quickly grew from working in just 2 school districts to the now 12 school districts that participate in the program. This program has evolved into a significant event that motivates students through practical learning and competition. It was clear the rural schools wanted more expertise and STEM materials so the students could have hands-on experience, so Alison co-founded, with her husband, Steven Alejandro, the STEM for Flathead Valley Schools organization in 2019. As a dynamic, results-driven leader, Alison’s role as president and co-founder has been crucial in creating a supportive environment for students to thrive in critical fields.. Please visit FlatheadSTEM.org for more information on her organization and programs.
Ms. Godfrey's repertoire of previous roles encompasses a long and distinguished career in aerospace engineering and testing. She began her career as a software engineer at Raytheon Co.'s Missile Systems Division in 1984, where she developed advanced command and control software for the Hawk Missile System. She later worked for Kaman Sciences Corp. and Tech Reps Inc., Hughes Missile Systems Co., BF Goodrich Aerospace, Honeywell Defense Avionic Systems Division, and Honeywell Clearwater Space Systems. From 2004 to 2010, she served as Staff Engineer and Launch Vehicle Technical Lead, as a team mate to Lockheed Martin Space Systems, for seven medium-range launch vehicles under the Missile Defense Agency's Targets and Countermeasures Program. She continued to support this program with Aero Thermal Technology, Inc. until her 8th successful launch in 2011.
Before embarking on her career path, Alison graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science in mathematics, specializing in computer science, in 1982.
Throughout her illustrious career, Alison Godfrey has received many awards and accolades for her accomplishments. This year she will be considered for the Empowered Woman Award and to be featured in TIP (Top Industry Professionals) Magazine. She will be honored at IAOTP's annual awards gala at Nashville's magnificent Opryland Hotel this December for her selection as Top President and Co-Founder of the Year 2024. Alison has also been honored with multiple awards for her contributions to STEM education.
In addition to her successful career, Ms. Godfrey is committed to empowering others through education by hosting yearly workshops for Power Your Future. Power your Future, previously known as Expanding Your Horizons (EYH), is a national network whose mission is to provide young women (middle school girls) with opportunities to meet and interact with inspiring female role models who are active in STEM careers.
The President of the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP), Stephanie Cirami, stated: "Choosing Ms. Godfrey for this honor was an easy decision for our panel to make. Alison Godfrey is inspirational, influential, and a true visionary and thought leader. We cannot wait to meet her and celebrate her accomplishments at this year's gala."
Looking back, Alison attributes her success to her perseverance, work ethic, and inspiration from her parents Carolyn Godfrey, a retired RN, and Maj Robert C. Godfrey, USMC Ret. When not working, Alison enjoys spending time with her husband, Steven, hiking, canoeing, biking, snowshoeing, sledding, cooking, and gardening and caring and playing with their donkeys, chickens, and cats. For the future she plans to expand her organization to reach other schools using a hands-on learning approach.
