The complaint, filed in Miami-Dade County Circuit Court, names Waterfront Construction (the barge owner), Miami Yacht Club, and the Miami Yacht Club Youth Sailing Foundation (the camp) as defendants. It alleges negligence after a construction barge collided with a sailboat carrying campers between Hibiscus and Monument islands. The impact capsized the vessel, throwing all five children and a counselor into the water. Despite calm conditions and clear visibility, three girls died from their injuries in Miami, FL.
