Suffolk recently broke ground on a major expansion at White Plains Hospital. The project adds to the premier contractor’s robust healthcare and life sciences portfolio as it continues to build momentum in the New York City region.

Suffolk's innovative construction methods, proven expertise in managing complex healthcare projects, and deep understanding of healthcare client needs will be crucial as White Plains Hospital significantly increases its space for patient care. Upon completion, the expansion will increase licensed bed capacity from 292 to 436, ultimately adding 240 private rooms, 144 of which will open in 2028; it will create a dedicated operating room floor with space for 10 additional state-of-the-art operating rooms equipped with the latest technology to support the increasingly complex care the Hospital provides; and more than double the size of the hospital's emergency department. This transformative project will not only expand the hospital’s capacity and capabilities but also improve access to quality healthcare for communities throughout the Hudson Valley.

“This expansion is a landmark healthcare project for Westchester County and beyond that will greatly improve access to care,” said Joseph Whalen, Vice President of Operations at Suffolk New York. “Our team is proud to bring Suffolk’s innovative technology, data-driven processes, and client-focused approach to deliver a seamless construction experience and help redefine how America builds.”

Suffolk is at the forefront of leveraging technology and data to streamline processes and enhance efficiency throughout the entire building lifecycle, changing how buildings are planned, designed and constructed. Suffolk’s use of sophisticated technologies, combined with its collaborative and transparent approach to client service, adds significant value to healthcare clients by minimizing risk, increasing efficiencies, and delivering the safest projects on schedule and on budget, which is especially critical in healthcare builds.

Among the various technologies Suffolk’s project team has used on this project, the team utilized the Live Dimensions Steel Tracker, a proprietary technology that uses AI to track steel use and progress on projects, from the design phase through the completion of construction. Suffolk has also deployed NavVis, widely considered the most accurate handheld scanner, to capture high-quality data that is integrated into cloud-based collaboration platform Revizto to maximize cooperation across project teams.

“This expansion will help us continue to bring advanced, high-quality care closer to home for our patients,” said Joshua Strugatz, Chief Campus Transformation Officer at White Plains Hospital. “We have been very mindful of creating a facility that will address the current needs of our community, while anticipating where medicine will go in the future. Suffolk has been an exceptional partner—collaborative, innovative and committed to delivering a facility that will truly serve our community.”

Suffolk’s diverse portfolio of other notable projects in New York includes the Waldorf Astoria restoration, One High Line and 520 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan; Hatch Life Sciences and Jamaica Armory in Queens; The Brook in Brooklyn; and South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore.
