In remarks delivered to the Port Commission at the close of the meeting, Ms. Creuzot said:

“It has been a distinguished privilege and my esteemed honor to have served in the capacity of a Port Commissioner, and in particular, in the historic role as the first African American woman to hold this position. Above all, I take great pride in being a part of this commission as we embarked on a major project to make our channel safer and to increase commerce with Project 11 to widen and deepen the channel. I am very proud of my impactful role in substantially advancing initiatives to bolster business equity and small businesses and in enhancing community engagement.”

She continued, “Having achieved my objectives in these arenas, I chose not to seek a third term and proudly pass the baton on to the next person in leadership.”

Ms. Creuzot acknowledged Port Commissioner-elect Thomas Jones Jr., who was in attendance. She wished him well, expressing her full support and confidence in the leadership and contributions he will bring, before concluding her remarks:

“I wish Port Houston continued success as a driving force that contributes jobs and economic prosperity to our region. I want to thank our Chairman, fellow commissioners, and the port’s leadership team for their support and kindness during these four years, and I look forward to our continued friendship, as I eagerly anticipate extending my contributions to other areas within our community.”

Chairman Campo and fellow board members added their appreciation and respect for Ms. Creuzot’s contributions to the Houston Ship Channel Expansion – Project 11, and her efforts to enhance Port Houston’s eight public terminals.

During her tenure, Commissioner Creuzot focused on Port Houston’s Business Equity program and its establishment and ongoing development. She was also a member of the Audit Committee, Community Relations Committee, Governance Committee, and Dredge Task Force. Environmental stewardship and developing green spaces also received her particular attention.

Thomas Jones, Jr. is expected to begin his term as the new Port Commissioner this month. Port Commissioners are appointed to serve for two-year terms without pay and may serve a maximum of 12 years.
