Bill Bringing “Donate Life” Specialty License Plate to Wyoming Signed into Law

Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon affirms work of state legislature; Signs 2023 (SF0038) into law

A bill bringing “Donate Life” specialty license plates to Wyoming has been signed into law by Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon. Senators Wendy Schuler and Fred Baldwin and Representatives Ryan Berger and Jon Conrad sponsored the bill, and Governor Gordon affirmed the work of Wyoming’s state legislature by signing 2023 (SF0038) Special license plates – organ donation into law on February 27. The specialty plates will bring awareness to organ and tissue donation and inspire others to give the gift of life by registering as donors at Driver Services. The law is effective July 1, 2023. Wyoming joins 29 other states that offer license plates supporting this cause.

“Donor Alliance was honored to be a part of this tremendous effort by Wyoming community members, lawmakers, state-wide donation advocates and dedicated recipient and donor family members,” said Jennifer Prinz, president and CEO of Donor Alliance. “This legislative action demonstrates Wyoming’s commitment to honor the heroic decision of Wyoming organ, eye and tissue donors whose gifts save and heal lives while also bringing more awareness to the cause for those waiting for a lifesaving organ, eye or tissue transplant. We hope that seeing the Donate Life message on the road will spark more conversations about donation and inspire more residents to register to give the gift of life.”

For the Quinney family, the license plate is a positive reminder of the impact that organ and tissue donation have on the community. Eric Quinney’s son, Bryson, was saved by a heart transplant. Now, healthy and thriving with his new heart, Bryson and his father want to bring visibility and advocacy to organ donation.

The father-son team became the leading advocates for getting the bill that introduced the Donate Life plates enacted. Eric and Bryson testified at the Senate hearing for the special license plates by sharing the impact that organ donation has had on their family and so many others.

“Helping to make the Donate Life license plate a reality was one of the most satisfying things I’ve ever done,” said Quinney. “Organ donation saved my son’s life. I hope that this license plate will help bring awareness to organ, eye, and tissue donation, and inspiration to the 100,000 people currently waiting for a life-saving transplant.”

The specialty plates are expected to be available for purchase by January 2024. You can locate additional information about the Donate Life license plate by visiting the Division of Motor Vehicles website.
