UNIONDALE, NY / ACCESS Newswire / September 29, 2025 / Marquis Who's Who honors Peter James for his achievements across actuarial science, education, public speaking and philanthropy. His career is distinguished by more than three decades of technical expertise in insurance and financial modeling, as well as his dedication to leading community programs and inspiring others through service and personal example.

About Peter James
Mr. James is a senior actuary and U.S. model steward at Genworth Financial, where he has served since 2014. In this role, he oversees governance and model sign-off processes, working closely with senior leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting across long-term care, life insurance and annuities. His actuarial expertise is highly valued, with his chief actuary recognizing his ability to deliver results and provide reliable support.
Earlier in his career, Mr. James served as a valuation actuary at Pan American Life. He also built extensive experience in pricing and reinsurance as an associate actuary at RBC Life and Sun Life Reinsurance Group/Clarica. In these positions, he gained insight into actuarial processes that would later shape his success.
Mr. James earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from the University of the West Indies, Mona, in 1988. He initially believed that he would pursue a career in teaching. Later, inspired by his love for math, he later earned a Master of Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University in 1997. He also holds professional credentials, including membership in the American Academy of Actuaries and associate status with the Society of Actuaries.
Throughout his career, Mr. James has displayed a strong commitment to education and mentorship. Teaching remains one of his greatest passions, and he has left a lasting mark on students who recall his ability to make mathematics engaging. Many continue to credit him for inspiring their academic and professional pursuits, with one student even attributing Mr. James' encouragement to helping her reconsider a decision to end her life. His impact in the classroom underscores his belief that teaching transcends academics.
Dedication to Philanthropy and Community
In addition to his actuarial and teaching career, Mr. James has devoted significant energy to philanthropy and community initiatives. He currently chairs the scholarship and finance committees of his past student association and has helped provide financial support for high school students. In 2024, the program received 91 applications; however, funding allowed for only 40 awards. Mr. James aims to close the shortfall by raising additional funds. He also serves on the board of Dancing Classrooms Greater Richmond, where he supports programs that use ballroom dance to build self-esteem and social connection among students.
Beyond philanthropy, Mr. James's diverse pursuits extend to real estate investing, where he partners with Tax Sale Support to focus on multifamily housing and hotel projects. He is also a co-author of the inspirational book "Diary of the Seven Virgins," published in 2012, and a past president of the Spelling Bee of Canada, reflecting his dedication to youth development and literacy. His leadership in Toastmasters International further strengthened his communication skills, earning him recognition as a Distinguished Toastmaster and champion in speech contests.
Making an Impact
Over the years, Mr. James' accomplishments have been widely recognized with awards in both professional and creative arenas. He has won ballroom dance competitions, earned honors for leadership within Toastmasters and been featured in publications such as Millennium Magazine. His personal motto, "dare to be extraordinary," encapsulates his conviction in striving for excellence in all areas of life.
On a personal note, Mr. James is a husband and father who values family as the foundation of his success. He enjoys dancing, adventure travel and pursuing his interest in acting in his free time. His upcoming initiative, the Miracle Now Foundation, will focus on improving children's lives and contributing to advancements in the health sector.
Looking ahead, Mr. James plans to further expand his impact by advancing his foundation and continuing to guide students, families and professionals toward success. He attributes his achievements to his spiritual grounding and belief in empowering others to discover the best within themselves.
