Marquis Who's Who Honors Jennifer Alison Emmer as a Design Visionary Blending Feng Shui and Historic Preservation

UNIONDALE, NY / ACCESS Newswire / September 29, 2025 / Marquis Who's Who has recognized Jennifer Alison Emmer a nationally known interior designer and feng shui master, for her three decades of work blending design, preservation, and energy flow. As founder of Feng Shui Style, Ms. Emmer has built a career on elevating homes with both artistry and authenticity - often saving historic architecture in the process.

"Historic homes have a soul," she says. "Too often people are driving a stake into their hearts - ripping out original windows, installing drywall over original fireplaces, or covering wide pine planks with laminate. I've made it my mission to prove that restoring is not only possible, but often less expensive than building new."

A Foundation in Art and Design

Ms. Emmer's career draws on a wide-ranging education. She studied art at Skidmore College, design and photography at Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and humanities at Harvard University, with a focus on architecture, history, and French. She later completed graduate coursework in business at Boston University and went on to earn certifications in classical feng shui from internationally recognized masters.

That blend of design training, historical study, and business acumen shaped her into what she calls a "creative entrepreneur with a preservationist streak."

From Tech to Feng Shui Style

After early years in corporate roles - including quality assurance at NEC Technologies and engineering management at Adobe Systems - Ms. Emmer returned to her passion for design. In 2002, she launched Feng Shui Style, offering clients interiors that are both beautiful and energetically balanced.

"You can be your own feng shui detector," she explains. "Walk through your house and notice where you have a sinking feeling in your chest or where clutter overwhelms you. Those spots are telling you something. And watch your pets - they always choose the areas with the best feng shui."

Her approach, she adds, is much more than aesthetics: "Your home should not only look good, but smell good, feel good, and be filled with objects that bring you joy. If it does, you're on your way to great feng shui."

National Recognition

Ms. Emmer's philosophy reached millions of viewers in 2014 on HGTV's reality series "Flip It to Win It." She used her feng shui expertise to design and stage a Bay Area property. The home ultimately sold for 36% over the asking price.

She has since been recognized with numerous design awards from LUXlife to Houzz, and multiple honors on Top 3 and Top 10 Interior Designer lists for San Jose. In 2023, her firm was named the No. 1 Design Firm in Los Gatos, California. She's been featured in the San Francisco Chronicle, Good Housekeeping and US News & World Report, among others.

A Voice for Preservation

Beyond her design practice, Ms. Emmer has long advocated for historic preservation. She has been active with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Preservation Action Council of San Jose, The Connecticut Historical Society, Newington Historical Society and the Victorian Preservation Alliance.

She saves historic homes - by buying them. She also attracts many old home lovers as clients.

"Saving a historic building is cheaper than building a new one, and it keeps the continuity in the neighborhood," she says. "Historic homes are like beautiful neighbors on your street. If one of them gets knocked down, it really tears the soul out of the place." Her vision for the future is bold: "I plan to knock down mega-mansions and put up Victorians."

Looking Ahead

Alongside her design work, Ms. Emmer is writing a six-volume series on American architecture and two forthcoming books on feng shui. She is also developing a course to teach her methods to the next generation of designers and homeowners.

Ms. Emmer's guiding philosophy is simple: "If you pretend that fear is not real - which it isn't - you can do anything."
