HANOI, Vietnam - Are you living, or killing time? That’s the question behind a quiet global movement brewing in the backstreets of Hanoi and it’s spreading fast.
Founded by existential logotherapist Qu-rious (Qudeer Arshad), Scroll or Coffee is a weekly gathering that takes place not in boardrooms or classrooms but in hidden cafes, rooftops, basements, and alleys. It’s a space where strangers come together to talk deeply about life, over a cup of coffee, guided by questions that can’t be answered by Google.
Inspired by Albert Camus’ famous dilemma, “Should I kill myself, or have a cup of coffee?” each session opens with a prompt: “What belief have you outgrown?” “Where do you go when you feel lost?” “What does it mean to live fully?”
“We’re not here to fix you. We’re here to hear you,” says Qu-rious. “This is a return to something ancient like the Upanishads, Greek dialogues, or Sufi circles. Before there were screens, there were questions.”
From Hanoi to the World and Every U.S. State
The gatherings began in Hanoi, but the vision is global. Qu-rious hopes to take Scroll or Coffee to all 50 U.S. states and across the world, sitting with tribal communities, street poets, indigenous elders, and people who rarely get asked what they think, gathering questions that don’t often make it into headlines or timelines. His goal is twofold:
- To collect and exchange questions, not answers
- To build a living archive of human thought, across cultures, without filter or performance
“So many people feel overstimulated, unheard, and disconnected. Especially those newly diagnosed with ADHD, or creatives living in a world that punishes their rhythm,” says Qu-rious. “This is a movement, but it’s also a medicine.”
Behind the Movement: A Space for Those Looking for More
Qu-rious (Qudeer Arshad) is a British-born existential logotherapist and storyteller, and the son of Kashmiri immigrants. After three years in Cambodia and now based in Vietnam, he works globally with artists, athletes, musicians, and everyday individuals navigating anxiety, identity, late-diagnosed ADHD, and existential crises. Through his platform www.qu-rated.com, he offers therapy, coaching, and creative structure to help people move from drifting to living with intention.
His global philosophy project, Scroll or Coffee, blends ancient philosophical traditions with modern existential questions. It’s a reflection of his journey, a return to slower living, deeper thinking, and genuine human connection.
